Deal With Your Partner’s Mood Swings

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Justin Meyer A side effect of some medications given to people suffering from depression is mood swings. While this may seem ironic and cruel, it is fact. How do you deal with this, when you are the watching your significant other go from happy to upset to depressed back to happy. How do you reassure them when they are up and down, especially when the medication is supposed to be curing this very problem? There are a few things that you can do to help. The first is to offer consistency. Regardless of their mood, offer the same support that you have been offering. Make sure that your partner knows that you understand what they are going through and that you are supporting them no matter what. It is also important that you understand that the best way to deal with mood swings is not to ignore them, but to acknowledge them. Sometimes your significant other will require more help and other times they will be more self-reliant. Going with the flow is crucial in this scenario. If you find that there are more downward swings, or that you find the upward swings to be shorter or less effective, then it might be something to point out. If the side effects of the drug are causing worse symptoms than the original disease, the medication is clearly problematic. Sometimes it is hard for the person taking the medication to notice the situation. You need to make sure that you bring the scenario to their attention so they can make sure that the therapist and psychiatrist are aware of the problems. Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Tappal Babu ABSTRACT Visual merchandising a comparatively new career field in which has sprung up with the growing popularity of window and floor displays. Visual merchandisers main are of work is to create impossible window displays. They can find employment with fashion boutiques, shopping malls, euphoria etc. They are also engaged as shop floor mangers. They can also do freelancing on contract basis for windows displays in exhibitions, fares, and other places. Other career options under this head are production coordinator, quality control supervisor, fashion retailer, export manger etc. This paper discusses importance and potential for visual merchandising professionals. Contents INTRODUCTION CRITICAL ISSUES OF VISUAL MERCHANDISING ROLE OF VISUAL MERCHANDISING SCOPE FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT INTRODUCTION Selling a product (convenient/shopping/specialty) is incomplete without communicating its image. To build long term brand loyalty, in addition to the quality of the product, right image is very much needed. To attain this, many companies invest huge money the promotions. But many businesses neglect the retail front which is the face of the brands. In other words, the way the products are displayed at the retail shelves, the way the sales people communicate to the consumer etc. are the some of the issues, which if not handles well can be a great threat to the brands image. Visual merchandising is the art of presentation, which puts the merchandiser in focus. It educates the customers, creates desire and finally augments the selling process. This is an area where the Indian business people lack adequate knowledge and expertise. This inadequacy is best reflected in poor presentation/display and communication the various national and international exhibitions with phasing out of quantitative restrictions after the year 2004, the textile industry will have to compete purely on the competitive edge of the products and visual merchandising will be helpful for the projecting the uniqueness of the products and thereby increasing the market access and sales. It is high time that the Indian textile and clothing industry should understand and adopts the scientific and professional system of visual merchandising rather than the traditional practices of display of products and communication. CRITICAL ISSUES OF VISUAL MERCHANDISING Retailing them itself has transformed the way business is done and the so called merchandisers of disposition of store inventory. There are many ways and standard procedures to ignite sales, increase profits and maximize the net worth of the business. Visual merchandising helps in this respect. This calls for a concerted industry efforts to approximately value the importance of quality retail coverage such as self-integrity in store advertising, price verification, stock rotations, new item-cut and other related activities. To make effective the retail business one has to focus on the following critical issues of visual merchandising. a) Graphics and signage: attention grabbing yet clear graphics by way to visually communicate the brand and these graphics when compiled with the right signage become the stalls complete instruction manual. b) Trends and moot boards: This is misunderstood by many as mere decorations for the stall. The brand sources and moot boards convey the source, in fact the mere need of the product for the consumer to the buyer. A good trend story board display can exhibit a thought process nursing for the inspirations (research, to swatch development of the final usage of the product. c) Space management: Most displays concentrate on the floor management of space. In order to create a complete desired ambience the ceiling space should also be given enough attention. Walls are not elastic space should be allocated to the available products as per the expectation of the customers to deliver best results. The major issues of space management are: 1. How do we want our ranges to look? 2. Hanging/stocked/customers etc. 3. What stock density do you want to achieve? Generally, the more options/units you can hold for a given amount of space, the higher the potential returns. Space landing systems can be split into two types Numeric and visuals: Numeric planning system simply allow users to account of space available and to calculate the ratios like returns on space. Visual systems allow users to create three dimensional walk through models of the stores and to preview the look of a store once ranging decisions have been made. d) Dresiforms and mannequins: The dresiforms communicate the 3 dimensional form of the product. Along with the fit a good mannequin can also be customized to communicate a character, for example, special kids wear mannequins with caricatured faces convey the playful mood of the collections. e) Synergy among the different stalls: A stall look should compliment the mood the whole fair too. So some visual elements from the fair, be it a color scheme or some material used should also be incorporated in the stall. f) Out of the box thinking: With so many stalls around, it sometimes focus some stock value to grab the attention of the buyers. Innovative ideas in displaying the mannequins, swatches etc can invite many more people to the stall. g) Merchandise planning: The first function of merchandising planning is making a strategic plan, which is normally for a five years or more and is used to set the critical success factors for merchandising in terms of sales, margins and stocks. Next in a channel sales budget to take into account the effect of the new channels, new stores, closures, and refits. In simple words merchandising planning is a systematic approach and aiming at maximizing return on investment, through planning sales and inventory in order to increase profitability. It does think by maximization sales potential and minimizing losses from marked down and stock cuts. h) Range planning: Begin with assortment plan. In assortment plan, the goal of merchandise plan are divided into specific lines and such a way that the division results in the increase of overall marginal mix. Then a distributions planning in done. The link between available physical space and ranging done here is a key determinant of merchandising performance. ROLE OF VISUAL MERCHANDISING Visual merchandising is an artistic method to ensure that retailers merchandise moves off the shelves faster. Its a tool to appeal to the visual sensory elements of the customer. Visual merchandising is an unknown skill which is fastly becoming popular nowadays with the introduction of self service in retail stores in recent years and the number of changes taking place in super market merchandising methods, there has been increased emphasis on the kind of store layout, store building, fixtures, and equipment, color displays, silent communication tools, window display and finally opinion building through in store displays which has taken the art of retailing the higher applications frames. Customer expects to spend less time for shopping and prefers one step multi brand retail formats and hence significance of visual merchandising is on increase. As per the opinion of Hemendra Mathur, senior consultant of KSA technopark based on the third annual consumer outlook study that the consumer is getting time saved and the time spent on shoppin (both grocery and non grocery) has come down. Further the study reveals that are increase in the impulse and unplanned purchases in the certain categories. Visual merchandising helps in the increase of impulse buying. The practice of a visual merchandising is negligible in durables and home textiles and in the apparel and foot wear it is 20%. Many people experience in organized retailing are of the opinion that innovative application for effective retail presents and brand buildings are being used aggressively by companies in retail merchandising. Brands like Reebok spent 25% of their advertising spent on point of sale merchandising. The brand managers of Reebok feel that 80% of the buyers are influenced by the 3 feet experience i.e, point of sales material and visual merchandising are more effective than outdoor displays and advertising. Market analysis feel that most companies are unfortunately not spending as much time and money as they should on POS (point of sales) visual merchandising as a strategic tool for brand building, indiscriminately displaying everything rather than displaying selectively and effectively to assist consumer in taking decisions. Visual merchandising helps in: a) Establishing a creative medium to present merchandise in 3 D environment, with which a long lasting impact and recall value. b) Combining the creative, technical, and operational aspects of a product and the business. c) Educating the customers about the product/services in an effective and creative or innovative manners. d) Drawing the attention of the customer to enable him to purchase decisions in the short space of time and this augmenting the selling process. SCOPE FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT Retail business analysts feel that the average spending on POS and merchandising displays is RS. 1000 per square foot in the organized retailing whole size is Rs. 14,000 crores of the total (both organized and unorganized is Rs. 11,00,000 crore. Further analysis reveal that the multi brand retail formats (hypermarket) are storing 35% growth rate per annum which is the storing indicator for the bright and huge scope. For the visual merchandising professionals who have experience in designing effective store layouts, color displays, the use of creative silent communication skill tools, creative window display, and in store displays. The curriculum of visual merchandising includes generally the following fields: a). Creative art. b). Specific application to retail. c). Techno commercial planning and execution. Students of management looking for employment can find opportunities in departmental stores, super markets, malls, and hyper markets as visual merchandiser. Further those who have entrepreneurial streak can look for event managers or interior designers professionals. Author is Asst. Traditional Irish Wedding Ceremony Customs

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By Mary Arnold When we think of weddings, most of us picture the traditional ceremony that has been handed down from Victorian England. In recent years, however, many engaged couples elect to forego those traditions and use their wedding to celebrate their cultural roots. In this article, I’ll provide many ways in which couples can incorporate Irish customs into their own wedding ceremony, and in a following article, I’ll describe traditions regarding the wedding reception. Invitations and other wedding stationery. In most stationery stores, you can find images and symbols common to Ireland, such as shamrocks, heraldic harp, Celtic cross, Celtic love knot, swans, and the Claddaugh. You might also find that many places have fonts derived from the Book of Kells for the wording in your invitations. Choosing a date for your wedding. Traditionally, most Celtic wedding ceremonies were held during one of the four major festivals. If you wish to have a spring wedding, why not during Beltane, which occurs around the first of May? For a summer wedding, Lughnassadh was celebrated in early August. Samhain, on November 1, is thought by many to be the Celts’ New Year and is a popular time for wedding celebrations. The last of the four major festivals is Imbolc, which is celebrated on February 1. Other days considered especially lucky to be married on include: the last Tuesday before Lent, Christmas, New Year’s, St. Patrick’s Day, and December 31. In “Irish Wedding Traditions”, Shannon McMahon Lichte explains that “it is thought that your last memories of the year you marry should be the happiest ones” (13). Wedding Attire. If you are able to do so, consider ordering your wedding gown from an Irish designer. There are many places on the internet where you can find traditional Celtic wedding apparel. Even in America, you can find Celtic wedding designers; a web search will bring up numerous hits. If you do order a traditional Celtic wedding dress, you might like to also wear a Kinsale cloak (if the weather permits). These cloaks are very beautiful and would make a lovely addition to your wedding attire. But if the traditional Celtic gowns aren’t your style, you can still incorporate some Irish customs into your attire. You could have your gown embroidered with Irish symbols, such as the Celtic knot. You could use handmade Irish lace on your veil and/or dress. You could carry a traditional Irish linen handkerchief and/or wear a green garter with a shamrock on it. The groom could dress in traditional Celtic apparel, to match the bride. Or for a more modern ceremony, he could wear a green cummerbund or tie with his tuxedo. Cufflinks sporting Celtic symbols might also be located or specially-ordered. Another tradition regarding wedding attire is that the Irish consider it lucky to be married in a pair of old shoes. Lichte, in “Irish Wedding Traditions,” states this custom may derive from the “idea of beginning a new journey with something familiar, like a favorite pair of broken-in shoes” (46). Lichte also suggests using old shoes, rather than tin cans, on the back of the couple’s getaway car as leather is believed to ward off evil spirits and shoes symbolize fertility (47). Engagement and Wedding Rings. Today, many brides are choosing emerald engagement rings, rather than the traditional diamond, to symbolize the Emerald Isle. In Ireland, the most popular style of wedding rings is the Claddaugh. This gold band features two hands holding a heart which is topped with a crown. The hands represent friendship, the heart love, and the crown loyalty. This ring has several legends surrounding it dating back to Medieval times. In addition, there are many manufacturers of wedding rings who utilize Celtic themes, such as the triquetra or Celtic knot. With so many styles to choose from, there’s sure to be one to please everybody. This ends part one. I hope you’ve found these suggestions helpful and that you’ll also find part two equally informative. Adjustable-Rate Mortgages vs. Fixed-Rate Mortgages

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Yon_Olsen]Yon Olsen Many people have a hard time choosing between an adjustable-rate mortgage and a fixed-rate mortgage. Its not hard to understand why someone would be concerned. Do you opt for the lower up-front rate and hope for the best in years to come or do you go for the always-safe fixed rate that never changes? The answer to the question actually depends on your specific needs and circumstances. Lets say youre purchasing a home that you only plan to stay in for one or two years. An adjustable-rate mortgage offering a lower initial interest rate than available fixed-rate mortgages would make more sense. However, if you plan on staying in the home for the rest of your life, an adjustable-rate mortgage can be quite a gamble. As people who took out adjustable-rate mortgages during the lending industrys record lows a few years back can tell you, interest rates can skyrocket at the drop of a hat. The best way to figure out whether you should choose an adjustable-rate mortgage or go with a fixed-rate mortgage is to estimate what will happen to the loans interest rate and payments in specific scenarios. By calculating worst-case scenarios, you can see if you would be at risk of losing your home should interest rates spiral out of control. Calculating what-if scenarios can also help you determine if a fixed-rate mortgage would actually give you a lower monthly payment than your adjustable-rate mortgage if interest rates take even a slight hike. Lets say you were buying a long-term home for $250,000 and you were thinking about taking out a 3/1 ARM with an interest rate of 5 percent but that rate would only hold for three years. After that three-year period, the rate would fluctuate according to the Treasury index plus a margin of 2.5 percent. On the other hand you could take out a fixed-rate mortgage with a 6.5 percent interest rate. What should you do? You can take the adjustable-rate mortgage, but if your interest rate goes up just one percent a year, five years after you buy your home youd be paying more for the adjustable-rate mortgage than you would have paid had you taken out the fixed-rate mortgage. In the above scenario, a $200,000 30-year ARM with an interest rate of 5 percent would cost you approximately $1,075 a month. If that interest rate increases by just 1 percent during the first adjustment period, your monthly payment will jump to approximately $1,190. If the same thing happens at your next adjustment, your payment amount goes up to more than $1,300. One more time and your payment is already at about $1,430 a month. To make matters worse, the amount of your payment applied to principal is going down and the amount applied to interest is going up. If you would have opted for the fixed-rate mortgage with a 6.5-percent interest rate, your payments would have stayed at a steady $1,264 a month. Not a pretty situation. While an adjustable-rate mortgage may be a better choice for short-term home purchases, people who plan on living in their home for many years to come may want to avoid the what if scenario and opt for a fixed-rate mortgage. Distrust: Guilty Until Proven Innocent?

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Paul Davis Men and women have always lived in what filmmaker Neil LaBute likes to call an uneasy alliance. Infidelity strikes at the core of our being and personal dignity. Distrust therefore can be a battle we at times have to deal with in any relationship before we wear ourselves out emotionally and eventually begin to simply trust the person were with or remove them from our lives altogether. Historically distrust has always been a bug eating at the human soul. Othello smothered Desdemona because he thought she cheated on him; Hercules killed his wife in a fit of madness (claiming the gods made him do it); and in The Arabian Nights, the Great Sultan, believing all women are wicked, married a fresh wife each night and had her strangled the following morning. Indeed there is nothing new under the sun as it pertains to human distrust in relationships. Trust requires that we be vulnerable and transparent with people. That is more easily said than done because all of us fear rejection at some level by someone. The key to hurdling that barrier however is to purpose in your own heart that if you get burned, you get better. If you get ditched, you get more discernment. If you get broken, you get a breakthrough! If you get hurt, God can heal your heart and help you up again! No guts, no glory! Sadly some who have been hurt take their pain into their new relationships and thereby perpetuate and complicate their emotional lives holding their newfound love beneath their microscopic scrutiny until they prove out. That is they hold them guilty until proven innocent based upon the actions of others who have wronged them. It is far better however to start afresh and not hold people hostage emotionally because of your personal unfinished business. Forgive and let live! To not be vulnerable, relatable and real is to risk never connecting on a deep level with people. It is far worse to be unable to connect with people than to connect with and be cut off by people. Connect and dont fear those who reject. When people remove themselves from you, consider it their loss and happily move on. Consider it a blessing in disguise as those not desirous and incapable of committing to a meaningful relationship are moving out of your life. Dont prolong and perpetuate the pain over the long-term. Get your end-game going girl where need be and move out the zero in preparation for your hero. Before you can have a new beginning, you first must have an old ending. Therefore dont hold on to relationships too tightly where there is not a mutuality and equality of desire. On the other hand once you find a man worth committing too, refuse to allow distrust and jealousy to impede your relational growth and progress. Don’t let distrust cause you to rust and reject meaningful relationships. Trust and thrust yourself forth to new levels relationally! Here are some rules to get rid of distrust and its crippling effects. 1. I readily trust everyone until they prove to me that they cannot be trusted. 2. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt and consider them innocent before guilty. 3. I have decided to err on the side of mercy and grace rather than judgment and criticism. 4. When I show hope and faith in humanity they most often meet my expectations and bless me. 5. Trust empowers people around me and makes them want to help me. Dont be damned by distrust. Forget the past and lift up your head! The sun always shines above the clouds. Celebrate you today and things will begin to go your way! How to Flirt With Women Using the Power of Positive Body Language

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Scott Patterson Learning how to flirt is probably the best skill you can learn to attract women. By understanding proper flirting techniques, you will be able to build rapport with a girl and demonstrate your sexuality in a nonverbal way. Done correctly, you will be able to make her instantly attracted to you. Unfortunately finding out how to flirt is hard for a large number of men. In our modern education system, little time is spent on teaching us relationship and sexuality skills. As a result, many of use have no clue about how to flirt and ways we can build attraction with women. Fortunately flirting is a skill that you can easily learn. In a previous article, I discussed the nature of flirting and why it’s important to learn this skill. I mentioned the importance of doing two things before flirting with a woman. The first is you have to be completely comfortable with yourself and ignore any faults that you may have. The other is to have the right frame of mind when flirting. Your focus is to have fun and be interesting to any woman you’re talking to. By doing these first two steps, you will be creating what I like to call a “flirting atmosphere”, which is a fun, low-pressure way to engage women in a conversation. If you do this right, you’ll be able to build an instant connection with any woman. Once you have the right kind of mindset for creating a flirting atmosphere, you have to ensure that your body language matches your attitude. This means your body should radiate confidence while remaining relaxed and in control. What I mean by this is you have to show her that you’re having fun in your interaction, but you’re not taking yourself too seriously. As we all know, women love confident men. So you can subconsciously draw in women by giving off a positive aura. To have the proper body language, you have to carry yourself with a straight, but relaxed posture. This signifies that you are confident while not being too stuffy. After demonstrating your relaxed attitude, you have to give off a “welcoming attitude” with your body language. This means leaving your arms uncrossed and leaning forward to her as she is talking to you. The final secret for learning how to flirt is to know how to use your smile. As we all know, a smile is a contagious thing. If you give her a welcoming and friendly smile, you are telling a woman that you like her and find her interesting. So when you’re creating a flirting atmosphere, make sure that you give her a confident smile that lets her know you find her interesting. Believe me when I say that your smile will be the best arsenal when it comes to flirting with a woman. Knowing how to flirt is a crucial step to meeting and attracting women. But before you even talk to them, you have to have the right kind of body language. By being able to create a flirting atmosphere and smile with a confident manner, you will set up a relaxing situation where you can easily build rapport and possibly “do more” with her. So get out there and start practicing your flirting skills. Having trouble approaching and attracting women? Energy Healing for Your Sick Children, Family Members & Friends with Love

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

By Brent Atwater The alternative medicine of Love is a great Healer. Often times when a child is sick, a Mother doesn’t know where to turn other than to allopathic medicine. Complementary to and integrated with traditional medical treatments and procedures is love. There have been many “miraculous” turn arounds and healings that have been supported by a caregiver or family member who thru love have held hope and belief that the patient will get well against all the odds. A caregiver’s loving touch, prayers and contribution to a positive environment and positive attitudes can help change the course of an illness. Below are some suggestions to help facilitate healing in someone you love. As a caregiver, you can learn ways to help your “patient’s” environment, which in turn contributes to their well-being. The environment that surrounds a sick person takes on the energy of those people that participate in the patient’s healing journey. It is imperative to have all those that are working towards the health of the patient to have a positive “can do” attitude. Even unspoken dismay and disbelief permeates the patient’s and the environment’s energy field, and contributes negative energy that cancels a positive atmosphere. Holding a positive loving attitude creates a subliminal environmental energy support system that inspires the desire to live and to have better health. Unless medically prohibited, plants help an environment, as do cheerful colors, soothing music, prayer and laughter. Laughter therapy is rapidly gaining ground as a healing modality, like positive attitudes. Create a happy book, wall, or poster board with fun pictures to contribute to positive mental health that assists healing. The power of laughter and positive attitudes both trigger the brain to create chemicals that cause the body to create better immune system responses which is critical when combating illness. On a physical level, a caregiver can use their love to help the patient’s health.(Information for this exercise: you receive energy with your left hand and send energy if you are right handed, and the reverse if you are left handed.)If you are right handed, placing your left hand on your heart and your right hand on the patient’s left hand state: “Thru the Love of my heart I send you my life force energy to do with as you so choose on your healing journey.” This honors the patient’s journey, whether it is being physically cured or healing thru transition. Another technique is to hold the ball of the patient’s feet in the palm of your hands and state: “I send you my life force energy to use as you so choose, and it is my intent to remove any and all excess, unnecessary, toxic, pain and unhealthy energy and to replace that energy with the physically healing, pain free energy of the Christ White Light (or the Universe, or whatever power source that you acknowledge). So be it, it is done.” This helps the patient to become more balanced and stabilized. It has shown great results. Healing and the power of healing on all levels can to be summed up in the phrase “and the greatest of these is love.” Feel free to reprint this article in its original format. Child Identity Theft: Young People Are Becoming Prime Targets

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

By Ruby Aragon Child identity theft is when someone steals or uses a minors identifying information as their own. They might use it for financial gain, in which case theyve obtained a minors social security number and use it to get credit. They might also use it to help them get a drivers license. There have also been instances when people have obtained a minors identity and sold it to illegal immigrants or people who want to change their identity to avoid arrest or some other negative consequence. In more than half of the cases, a relative or close family friend is the identity thief in child identity theft cases, but its not always someone who knows the child. As a parent you must be diligent in protecting your childs information. Never put your childs social security number on non-essential forms such as sports registrations and always shred any documents that have account numbers and social security numbers. Another thing you can do is check your childs credit report once a year to make sure there is no strange activity taking place. People who want to begin using someone elses identity turn to children as prime targets of identity theft for two main reasons: One, they often have spotless records so people are able to use the information to gain credit. Two, identity thieves are often not detected for years because most children dont have any reason to check their credit reports. The Identity Theft Resource Center reports that only 4% of reported identity theft cases are for people under the age of 18, but they also explain the number is probably much higher because many cases have yet to be detected. Your teenagers might be sorely disappointed when they head into the DMV to get their drivers license or learners permit and are told that they cannot get one because there is already a drivers license issued to their social security number. Even worse, your child might not find out about a theft of his or her identity until he or she is a young adult and trying to apply for a loan. Probably the worst case scenario would be when the police show up at your door with an arrest warrant in your childs name because someone committed a crime using your childs name. While this is a very extreme case, if someone uses your childs identity for financial gain, at the very minimum, be prepared to spend years working to clear his or her record of the stains left by the thief. There are some signs that might tip you off that your child may be the victim of identity theft before it comes to that, however. (If you experience any of these signs, its very important to have your childs credit checked to see if there is any unlawful activity and to report any known incidences to the police.) - Your child begins receiving pre-approved credit card offers or bank statements in the mail. - Your child begins getting calls from telemarketers that directly ask for them. - Your child is denied the right to a drivers license because someone already has one under his or her social security number. Nutritional Aspects of Healthy Weight Loss (Part 3)

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

By Malton A. Schexneider Micronutrients Because of the nutritional deficiencies in the soil due to modern farming techniques and the presence of toxins, chemicals, additives, and preservatives, the need for micro nutritional supplementation is very important in our diet. Micronutrients are found within the macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and fiber) of whole foods and include such substances as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants. The depletion of vitamins and minerals in our soils today makes it necessary to supplement your diet with the core vitamins and minerals you need for a healthy lifestyle. For example, you would need to eat 75 bowls of spinach to get the amount of iron found in one bowl of spinach in 1935. Obviously eating 75 bowls of spinach is impractical, not to mention nearly impossible. The alternative is to take a supplement that would provide you with the necessary amount of iron. The vitamins and minerals you take need to be high quality. That is, they need to be pharmaceutical grade and have no colors, bonders, fillers, dyes, sugars, or flavors. A review of the benefits, dietary sources, and symptoms of deficiency for each of the specific healthy weight loss micronutrient essentials is provided for your review. A comprehensive list of other essential vitamins and minerals will be provided in the food and recipe booklet. Vitamin A (Retinol) Functions Rebuilding of body tissues. Formation of teeth and bone. Retards the onset of senility and prolongs lifespan. Important in maintaining good vision, healthy skin, and healthy mucous membranes. Necessary for proper immune system function. Dietary sources Found only in foods from animal sources, especially beef, calf, and chicken liver and eggs. Dairy products such as milk, butter, cheese, and ice cream. Beta-carotene, a nutrient found in fruits and vegetables, can be converted to vitamin A in the body as needed. Symptoms of deficiency Frequently tired. Susceptible to infection. Rough, dry skin. Decrease in appetite or sense of smell. Night blindness. Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) Functions Important antioxidant essential for stopping the damage caused by free radicals, which are the major causes of aging and disease. Vitamin C is needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. Essential in the maintenance of immune function, Necessary in the formation of collagen, an important protein used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Assists in wound repair. Needed to form and repair cartilage, bones, and teeth. Boosts your body’s resistance to the common cold and viruses. Dietary sources Your body does not store vitamin C so you must consume enough each day to maintain good health. Excellent sources include oranges, green peppers, watermelon, papaya, grapefruit, cantaloupe, strawberries, mango, broccoli, tomato juice, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and cabbage. Vitamin C is also found in raw and cooked leafy greens (turnip greens, spinach), canned and fresh tomatoes, potatoes, winter squash, raspberries, and pineapple. Symptoms of deficiency Slow healing wounds and fractures. Swollen, painful joints. Bleeding gums. Nosebleeds. Severe deficiency results in clinical scurvy. Vitamin E (Tocopherol) Functions A powerful antioxidant that protects LDL cell membranes from oxidation damage. Helps maintain healthy DNA in the interior of cells. Important in supporting good cardiovascular health and a strong immune system. Required for respiration on the cellular level. Helps the lungs function normally and inhibits the clotting of blood. Dietary sources Vegetables and seed oils including soybean, safflower, and corn; sunflower seeds; nuts; whole grains; and wheat germ. Leafy vegetables also supply an appreciable amount of this nutrient. Symptoms of deficiency Larger than normal deposit of fat within the muscles Rupturing of red blood cells are symptomatic of a deficiency of vitamin E. Beta Carotene Functions Anti oxidant that is converted by the body only as needed. It acts to protect cells from attack by free radicals. Dietary sources The richest sources of beta-carotene are yellow, orange and green leafy fruits and vegetables such as carrots, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cantaloupe, and winter squash. In general, the greater the intensity of color of the fruit or vegetable, the more beta-carotene it contains. Symptoms of deficiency Loss of appetite. Susceptibility to colds. Dryness of the hair. Insomnia Calcium Functions Maintains bone mineral density. Critical to nerve conduction, muscle contraction, blood clotting, neural function, cell division, and electrical conduction in the heart. Helps regulate blood pressure Essential for producing and activating enzymes and hormones that regulate digestion, energy, and fat metabolism. Dietary sources Dairy products Vegetables Symptoms of deficiency Osteoporosis. Back and leg pain. Uncontrolled, painful muscular contractions. Living Longer, Looking Better Healthy Lifestyle & Weight Loss Program Micronutrient Consumption Recommendations Take 1 multivitamin 3 times per day. How to Contact Women Online

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Stephanie Constantina What are the best approaches to contacting women online? Here I discuss some things to watch out for. Men, once you have joined one of the leading subscription dating services online you may be wondering what is the best approach to contact women. The first point to understand is that it is perfectly OK to contact several women at the same time. At this stage you are simply trying to make new friends and are still a long way off from concentrating upon one single woman. However, when you have selected the women you would like to contact from their photo personal ads, it is important not to overstretch yourself and try to contact too many women at once. For example, if you were to send the same e-mail to a number of different women it would be clear to most if not all of them that what you have sent was a generalized e-mail not intended for someone specifically as an individual. Nothing could be more offputting — this kind of e-mailing amounts to a sort of spam. In order to contact somebody correctly it is important that you read their profile carefully and pick up on the individual things they say about themselves, such as their hobbies and what interests them. After all, it is their personalities as expressed in their personal ads that has made you want to e-mail them in the first place, isn’t it? A particular woman’s photo may have been the very first thing that attracted you, but if you do not like the sound of that woman as a person there is no point in trying to begin any kind of relationship. Also, watch out for the fact that some less than sincere members of dating services may use photos of models to in effect lie about their own appearance. So, you need to get writing individual e-mails to your chosen female contacts. A good approach is to begin by treating each one as if they were a new colleague at your place of work. So, be friendly but not overfamiliar. Don’t make the initial e-mail too long, and make sure that you show an interest in what the woman you are writing to has expressed as her own hobbies and interests. If these match your own, you could briefly mention your own activities in this context. Most of all, ask some questions to give her a good reason to e-mail you back and continue the conversation. Avoid trying to “sell” yourself to the other person in your e-mail. You are striking up a new friendship, not undertaking a job interview. Be brief and to the point, friendly and interested in the other person, but not too personal. When you ask questions do not begin to sound as if you are interrogating. If you haven’t had a reply to your initial e-mail after a few days, then try again using a slightly different approach. Before you write this second e-mail go back and re-read your first — was there anything in it that might have put somebody off? If you don’t get a reply to your second e-mail cross this woman off your list and move on to the next. If she does reply try to respond to her e-mail quickly, as nobody likes to be kept waiting, especially when contacting people for the first time. In your first few e-mails try not to say anything that would embarrass you later if you were to meet her friends. Women sometimes share the early e-mails of a new online relationship with their friends, and this is perfectly normal. But you do not want to be in the position of wishing that you had not said something, later on when you meet those friends. Finally, as with any online contact who you do not know very well, do not believe everything that you are told and keep in mind the matter of online safety. Never give out your personal details until you know somebody well offline, as well as online. For more on how to contact women online go to Contact Women or Men for Online Dating.
